Project documenting, sharing resources and state of international Canadian Studies

In its second year, the team behind the (Re)Searching for Canadian Studies (CanSearch) project is ready to share the project’s findings.

“The research collaboration between the ICCS and the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University has led to some interesting findings on the current state of international Canadian Studies, helping us also identify some of the supports needed,” said Jean Michel Montsion, the project’s principal investigator.

The project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and hosted at the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University.

Monthly, the project is releasing short information sheets that offer insights into the 2023 CanSearch survey on the state of international Canadian Studies. The series, titled “Studying Canada,” shines the spotlight on the themes that you as scholars of Canada, prioritize in your work, shared challenges and key distinctions. The first two information sheets focused on Canada’s relationship to Indigenous Peoples and Teaching and Research Materials are available on the ICCS website at this link.

“The CanSearch team has also been working on an open-access database, hosted on the ICCS website, that you may find helpful in your search for up-to-date research and teaching materials on Canada,” said Montsion. The beta version was launched earlier this month, with more than 300 entries. The team will be adding additional resources in the coming months, especially in French, as we work to improve this tool, its usability and usefulness. The database is available at this link.
