Objective
With one or two fellowships per year, we wish to enable international (and Canadian scholars), who have completed a doctoral thesis (within the last five calendar years) on a topic primarily related to Canada, to visit a Canadian (or international university) with a Canadian Studies program for a research fellowship. Canadian students who wish to continue their studies in Canada are NOT eligible.
Length of Stay
The length of the stay will be a minimum of one month and maximum of four months.
Grant Value
The grant will be C$2,000 to C$2,500 per month plus the cost of a return economy airline ticket for up to a maximum value of C$10,000.
Terms and Conditions
The grant targets international postdoctoral students in Canadian Studies. Postdoctoral students based in Canada might apply with a project in comparative Canadian studies, who wish to do research at a non-Canadian university. The applicant must be a member in good standing of a Member Association or of an Associate Member Association of the ICCS.
Interested individuals must take the necessary steps with the host universities or research institutions in question and obtain support of a faculty member who outlines the nature of the support and the services and research opportunities available.
Applicants must agree not to accept honoraria or salary during the period of their fellowship.
Application Dossier
The application dossier must include:
- an up-to-date curriculum vitae;
- a copy of the doctoral thesis (PDF);
- a full description of the project proposed by the applicant during his/her/their fellowship (10 pages, excluding bibliography);
- a budget detailing travel expenses and other expenses related to the successful undertaking of the fellowship;
- an official letter from the host university or research institution indicating its support of the researcher (availability of research tools, library, archives, computer, office, accommodation), the time period and the faculty advisor who will work with the candidate;
- Two letters of reference from university professors familiar with the candidate’s studies.
Responsibilities
Selected candidates are required to make all the necessary arrangements to carry out their project, including travel arrangements, passports and visas, accommodation, travel within the country and insurance (life, medical, etc.)
Deadline
Application files must be submitted to the ICCS with a recommendation from a Member Association or of an Associate Member Association of the ICCS before November 24.
