The International Council for Canadian Studies is organizing, in cooperation with York University Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies, an online interactive seminar series in Canadian studies this academic year. Our objective is to enhance knowledge about Canada among emerging scholars and to provide them with an opportunity to engage in dialogue with international leaders in Canadian studies.
We are planning 10 online seminars which will take place on Zoom on Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. EDT/EST. Each seminar is planned for 90 minutes: a 50-minute-lecture, followed by 15 minutes for questions and 20 minutes for the students to ask for advice or enquire about our speakers’ personal experience as experts in Canadian studies. To be issued an official certificate of completion by the ICCS, the attendees must attend 8 out of 10 seminars, and must submit a response paper of 1,000 words by the end of May 2025.
The seminar series will start in October 2024 and conclude in late April 2025.
We kindly ask each Association to supervise the application process, following criteria of academic excellence. Please select only Canada-focused candidates, indicating your first, second and third choice, and send us at iccsciec[at]yorku.ca by 24 September 2024 a ranking list of 1 to 3 candidates, including:
- The name of the PhD candidate with the University affiliation
- the candidate’s e-mail address
- the topic of research
- the name of the PhD thesis supervisor.
The ICCS will announce the list of attendees by 27 September 2024.
Depending on the space available, we will then open each meeting to other Canadianists.
This activity is partly made possible by the contribution of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Questions can be sent to iccsciec[at]yorku.ca.
