
The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) invites applications for the position of ICCS President. The position of President (elect) will be filled as of 01 July 2026, once an election has been conducted at the Annual General Meeting, to be held on 25 June 2026. The successful candidate will serve a term of office of one year as President-elect, two years as President, and a fourth year as Past-President. As the ICCS’ representative, the President presides at all ICCS meetings, the Annual General Meeting and Executive Committee’s meetings. The President shall have the general and active management of ICCS’ affairs. The President shall see that all orders and resolutions of the Annual General Meeting are carried into effect.
Desired Attributes & Abilities
The ICCS welcomes applications from candidates who have demonstrated the capacity to discharge the responsibilities effectively. These include leadership skills at a senior level, a proven commitment to and involvement in Canadian Studies, and the experience to lead and motivate an international organization with cultural sensitivity. An applicant should provide evidence of managerial ability, especially in the academic domain and have knowledge of both of Canada’s official languages. The ideal candidate would also have familiarity with conducting high-level exchanges with government officials and members of the private sector and experience with fundraising. It is desirable, but not required, that the candidate have acted as a Member Association President.
Roles & Responsibilities
After his/her/their election at the ICCS Annual General Meeting, the new President-elect will join the President, Treasurer and the ICCS Assistant to undertake the Executive Committee’s work. At the close of the 2026 meeting, the President-elect will assume the duties and responsibilities of ICCS President-elect. Among the President’s duties, we would highlight the importance of assuring the continuing development of the Council’s strategic planning efforts, serving as an engaged representative of ICCS Member Associations worldwide. The office holder will maintain and enhance strong collaborations with Canadian Studies programs and interested constituencies in Canada and abroad. This will include close coordination with the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University in Toronto, which hosts the Association.
